Autonomous Robot Software Design Challenge

چکیده
We summarize some current trends in autonomous robot software systems design and point out some of their characteristics, such as the chasm between analytical and computational models, and the gap between safety critical and besteffort engineering practices. We call for a coherent scientific foundation for autonomous robot software systems design, and we discuss a few key demands on such a foundation: the need for encompassing several manifestations of heterogeneity, and the need for constructivity in design. We believe that a longterm and continuous research effort is necessary to develop a framework for the rigorous construction of robust autonomous robot software systems.

Effective Mechatronic Models and Methods for Implementation an Autonomous Soccer Robot
Omni directional mobile robots have been popularly employed in several applications especially in soccer player robots considered in Robocup competitions. However, Omni directional navigation system, Omni-vision system and solenoid kicking mechanism in such mobile robots have not ever been combined. This situation brings the idea of a robot with no head direction into existence, a comprehensi...

A low-cost, autonomous, outdoor mobile robot platform has been designed to facilitate student participation in the Penn State Abington "Mini Grand Challenge" contest. The robot platform consists of a modified PowerWheelsTM robot base, servocontrolled steering and drive, vision system, GPS interface, sonar, and text-to-speech engine with a speaker for interaction with the contest spectators. Con...
متن کاملA Case Study in Behavioral Subsystem Engineering for the Urban Challenge
We present a case study in the design of an autonomous robotic software subsystem for managing mission execution and discrete traffic interaction in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge. Its role is reviewed in the context of the overall software system that controls “Boss”, Tartan Racing’s winning entry in the competition. Design criteria are presented, followed by the application of design principl...
متن کاملVersatile, High-Quality Motions and Behavior Control of a Humanoid Soccer Robot
Autonomous soccer games represent an extraordinary challenge for autonomous humanoid robots which must act fast and stable while carrying all needed onboard computers, sensors and batteries. In this paper, the development and system integration of hardware and software modules of the 55 cm tall, autonomous humanoid soccer robot Bruno is described to cope with this challenge. Altough based on a ...
متن کاملICTINEU Takes the Challenge
Within 1857-1868 Narcis Monturiol developed the first Spanish submarine. Almost one hundred and fifty years later, a pioneer team of students of the University of Girona decided to design and develop an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to face the Student Autonomous Underwater Challenge – Europe (SAUC-E). Our robot, called ICTINEU, is the result of a multidisciplinary project involving under...
